his exhibition that explores Black Mancunian history and culture through the eyes of 300 children.
Artist Tina Ramos Ekongo spent two months working with five schools in Longsight,
Gorton and Levenshulme delivering workshops to primary school Year 6 students.
The children then responded to what they had learnt about Black people’s contribution
in Manchester and how it related to their own sense of identity and values through the
creation of artworks. Themes such as The origin of Manchester Caribbean Carnival or
the 80 th Anniversary of the 5th Pan African Congress in Manchester were learnt using
creative learning techniques using Manchester Central Library Archives and The Ahmed
Iqbal Ullah Race Centre and Education Trust as learning hub.
About the Artist: Tina, an Equatorial Guinean/Spanish visual artist and producer, developed, produced and delivered the project. She is an advocate in make black history and culture
accessible to young people in the city through creative learning while speaking openly
against racism and discrimination. She has been a finalist for a Manchester Culture
Award 2025 in the category of Independent Creative of the year.
